Daily Deal Sites: is it Realy 50% Off?
Is it really 50 % off?
To have a discount? Sounds really nice, but is it a good bargain? There are different sites, offering even to 50 % off if there are enough people who signed in for certain restaurant, fitness or spa centre, etc. Well this is of course valid before the time limit expires. But if you sit down to calculate taxes, tips or any other unexpected bills, then sometimes discounts can cost you even more.
For example you buy a voucher for the amount of $20 for the price of $10, but you are allowed to use it for certain things. And usually they tend to be much more expensive than the things that you would usually buy. Or even with a voucher you find your bill quite big, and what is the reason for this situation? It appears that there are extra charges that the voucher can not cover, so you have to pay your bill without arguing.
So if you do not want to find yourself in such a situation, then perhaps it will be better to do a little research before you buy your voucher. First you need to know that the discount is never 50 %, because there are certain fees that need to be paid. Then you have to check what are vouchers’ restrictions for excluded dates and also any extra charges that it does not cover. And finally you can ask yourself if it is really a good deal for you?
2. Why to wait?
There is another problem with vouchers, which is unfortunately quite common pattern and is only customers` fault. Most of the people wait almost to the final date when the voucher expires in order to take advantage of it. But they do not consider some other specific things that do not concern the points mentioned above. Another main thing is to take into consideration what is the voucher going to be used for. There is an example – your voucher is for a discount in joining a dancing course, but you wait until the last minute and the class is already full. Then you can not be angry with the dancing school owner because there is certain number of the class and can not be expanded just because of some people who want to join but they are too late.
Of course there is a solution for such situations, when there is a great interest and companies are using it for the customers who signed in for the service in advance. In such situations (like for example it usually happens with plane tickets), companies are expiring the final date, because their customers did not wait for the last minute, but made a reservation, and because of the great interest for these vouchers the company can not handle with the number of people on time, until the last date, so they have to expire it in order to satisfy their clients.
3. It` s all legal.
There is the other side of things – the legal one. And customers should know that, because conditions are different for gift cards and for vouchers. So according to the law if you buy a $15 gift card, then the amount can not expire for the next five years. But if you buy a voucher for $30 and pay $15 for it, part of the amount can disappear in few months, which is included in the terms and conditions of the deal. That is why when you are reading a site offering such kind of deals and vouchers, you need to pay attention to all conditions concerning the offer.
